Moving Your Computer
Floppy Disk Preparation
- Make backup copies of your data files and store them
with the original program disks.
- Remove any floppy disks from the drives and insert a
cardboard disk or an old floppy disk.
- Close the drive door.
Hard Disk Preparation
- To avoid shock to your hard disk, "park" your recording
heads before moving. This retracts the recording head from
the data area into a safety zone.
- Some computers park the drive
automatically, some require software. IBM and most hard-disk
cones include the program SHIPDISK.EXE that parks the heads.
This program is located on the diagnostic diskette that
came with the computer.
Packing and Shipping Preparation
- Remove all cables and peripheral devices and pack separately.
- The original box with the rigid styrofoam packing material
your computer came in is the best choice.
- If the original packing box and material are not available,
ask us about moving supplies.
Printer
- The original packing box and material is the best choice
for moving.
- If you are moving a laser printer, take out the ink cartridge(s)
to avoid spillage.
- For pin printers, insert a piece of paper in the platen
to secure the print head.
